Six characters and a space
A conventional Canadian postal code alternates letters and digits, grouped as A1A 1A1. The first three characters identify a forward sortation area; the final three identify a local delivery unit. Keep the middle space when presenting the value.

Format checks have limits
Not every letter is valid in every position, and an arbitrary alternating string is not necessarily assigned. Use curated examples for predictable UI tests and a postal verification service when the application needs a deliverable destination.
Exercise province and language differences
Test Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec examples, including accented city names. Keep province abbreviations separate from the display label so your form can show a friendly name and export the expected code.
